1999 PETUNIA TRIALS
     Trials of some of the new varieties of petunias on the market are being conducted on the campus of Mississippi State University. The plants or seeds were obtained from the Paul Ecke Ranch, EuroAmerican Propagators, and PanAmerican Seed. These petunias were planted in large 14" diameter containers with 3 plants per container and placed outside in full sun in early May. These trials are designed to show how well the different varieties will tolerate the summer heat in Mississippi, how long the flowering lasts, and show the different colors and growth patterns of the varieties. These trials are open to the public from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday - Friday and are located next to the greenhouses behind Dorman Hall on the Mississippi State University campus. These pictures were taken in late June and the plants are looking great. Following is a list of the varieties in the trials. Click on the image to see the full picture.
